Miss Joaquim #1 (BCSG 2017 Travelling Doll) - Ocean Financial Centre, Singapore

One weekend, Hubby and I had to head to office. So I brought along Miss Joaquim, the BCSG 2017 travel doll. You never know when one can fit in some airtime!

Several of the offices in the Central Business District have birds eye views of the Marina Bay area, with the now iconic skyline (the Esplanade, Marina Barrage, ArtScience Museum, Marina Bay Sands).

Outside, at the Ocean Financial Centre (OFC), is a huge vertical garden, which shields the building's multi-level carpark. The vertical garden is an example of the move by developers, in recent years, to incorporate greenery into Singapore's urban buildings.

Indeed, the past five years have seen a rise in urban skyrise greenery such as rooftop gardens and vertical gardens in Singapore. Vertical gardens, especially, have been all the craze. They are inside and outside office spaces, F&B spaces, people's homes, schools, and even in parks and gardens.

The OFC vertical garden was the world's largest in 2013. (It has now been overtaken by the Tree House condominium at Chestnut Avenue.) For its eco-friendly features, Ocean Financial Centre has been awarded the NParks Skyrise Greenery Excellence Award 2013 and the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award (2016).

Finally, a point of trivia. Seasonal parking in the CBD is an expensive affair for daily commuters. In terms of seasonal and per-minute parking rates, OFC is one of the CBD's most expensive parking spots (if not THE most expensive). To save on parking costs, there are people who park at the Esplanade and either hoof it or e-scooter over.
