A Crafty Day Out at Haji Lane

Momiji (Wabi-Sabi Dolls) at Haji Lane, Singapore (more on IG)

Went out last week for some craft/fabric shopping at Sultan Road with Sheena and our dollies. After our craft/fabric hunting, we strolled down Arab Street to have a look at the fabric shops. There's really so many that I felt totally overwhelmed. And then we went down Haji Lane, an avant-garde/indie part of in the Kampong Glam area. The area used to be a residential area for Malays and has a lot of our nation's history behind it. One day, I should go back and do a more in-depth exploration of this historic area of our country.

We both took some pictures with the awesome wall art murals that are the area's distinctive and best-known feature. The murals made a great backdrop for our Blythe, especially Sheena's latest tanned calavera creation, Camila Candievera (on IG).

Colourful shophouses housing hip and trendy boutiques at Haji Lane, Singapore

We also just browsed through some of the various indie/hipster shops there, which are housed in some of the earliest shophouses in the area, built in the 60s and 70s. Vaguely remember popping into Craft Assembly, Spoilmarket and Drunken Balloon, among others. And I found a straw basket handbag (on IG) that was exactly what I was hoping for!

Modest fabric loot from Textile Centre.

Back home, I packed away the 4 fabric prints and Pellon fusible interfacing I got from Sing Mui Heng at the Textile Centre. If I had endless storage space, I probably would have gotten way way way more fabric at the Textile Centre, and from Arab Street as well. Be that as it may, although I don't actually need to get any more fabric, I got a couple of Liberty Tana Lawn prints (discounted!), and cotton Rifle Paper Co. "Wildflower" prints. The Liberty Tana Lawn prints will be going into other children clothing projects! And the Rifle Paper Co. ones will be great for Blythe clothing. Maybe a modern kimono ensemble or two?
