Have courage and be kind.

Last month's mail brought my pre-order of the Chu Things "Blue Lullaby" and "Green Lullaby" dresses! They're so lovely, delicate and dainty, and wonderfully made. The "Blue Lullaby" dress brought Lily James' Cinderella to mind, which prompted me to dress my Ella (Almond Doll custom) in it.

Naturally, that Cinderella brings to mind the now well-known words, "Have courage and be kind." The last words of Ella's beautiful mother, which became Ella's life motto. Even towards her horrid, self-centred, toxic step-family.

Interestingly, there are versions of the Cinderella story that are fairly gruesome. The Brothers Grimm version involves the stepsisters mutilating their feet to fit into the shoe, and the ancient Chinese version might refer to the ancient Chinese practice of foot binding (another form of mutilation). But let's not go there....

Instead, I'm just going to get carried away with the magic of Cinderella and Lily James' lovely portrayal of this girl-turned-princess. I personally prefer this version of Cinderella best. I love her sweet, kindness even as she is courageous, positive, independent, firm with her boundaries, and stands up for her principles and values. (And who can resist that ballgown!?) This Cinderella certainly has some good lessons to take away from, like some found in this Huffington Post article by Audrey van Petegem.
