Springtime Japan with Cleo #1 - Fukuoka

The first week of April, Hubs and I went on (yet) another road trip in Japan. This time, I took one of my girls to travel with us, Cleo Makoto (Cupcake Curio). Landed in Fukuoka, where we spent our first day, we then revisited Nagato in Yamaguchi Prefecture before going on to the main part of this road trip: Izumo and Matsue in the Shimane Prefecture, and Shikoku.

In Shikoku, we pretty much did a whirlwind road trip to the major spots in all 4 prefectures: Matsuyama in Ehime, Kōchi, the Iya Valley in Tokushima and Takamatsu in Kagawa. From Shikoku, we passed through Awajishima (which we explored in 2017 with Peko-chan) on the way to Osaka, and then spent a few days in Tokyo before heading back home. For this trip, I originally wanted to do parts of the Shikoku Henro (just parts of the route) but Hubby vetoed. After our Rebun cape course hike in 2024, he's pretty much pre-cancelled any future long(ish) hikes. For now.

As we landed in Fukuoka, our first day was pretty much spent at the Uminonakamichi Seaside Park (海の中道海浜公園), a huge, family-friendly park with several flower fields, playgrounds, open lawns and cyclings trails. While we were at the park, there were a lot of families spending the day there, cycling, picnicking and just leisurely taking in the spring blooms.

In particular, the nemophila (baby blue eyes) and the sakura blossoms. Not only were the nemophila in full bloom, so were the sakura blossoms. Lovely bright blue against the pale pink backdrop. And there were many families enjoying hanami picnics under the sakura trees in the grove.

It's been a long time since I've posted something travel-related and Blythe-related. Plus I noticed I've not updated several older travelogues too. Oops. Life has a way of catching up. It's another busy week ahead, so posts on this road trip will be slow.
