Drop Sleeve Blouse in nani IRO "Sen Ritsu - Embrace" (nani IRO 2014)

Drop sleeve blouse in nani IRO "sen ritsu エンブ".

First DIY wardrobe item for the year 2019~~!

Finished the kimono set for Caramelaw (will post later) and felt a little overwhelmed with trying to match fabric for the accessories for the other wip Blythe kimono. So I took a break from dolly sewing to make something for my wardrobe. This time, a drop sleeve pullover blouse in nani IRO "sen ritsu エンブ" double gauze, a 2014 nani IRO double gauze that is now out-of-print. The blouse pattern was modified on-the-fly from the dress pattern used for the Liberty 'Wiltshire' Tana lawn high-waist dress.

I would've preferred to make a dress with this gorgeous print. Unfortunately I am no magician, and cannot conjure up the additional fabric needed.

Sometimes I see a pretty fabric and buy a short length (0.5~1m), with the intention of making dolly clothes. Then I use a portion of it to make the intended dolly clothes, thinking I will use the remainder for other dolly clothes. It sits in the stash and the more I look at it, the more I want to wear it myself, and the more I regret not buying more. That's exactly what happened with this fabric. This blouse will forever be a reminder of this lesson.

Bias facing with Liberty Tana lawn bias tape.

Out of the 1m I had made 2 dolly dresses, one of which I included in the BCSG donation. The fabric I had left was only juuuuust barely enough for the visible portions of the blouse. Even then I had to join together separate pieces for the sleeve cuffs, because I didn't have enough (lengthwise) to cut a whole piece.

And there actually wasn't enough fabric for the neckline facing (traditional facing), so I had to finish the neckline with bias facing and different fabric. In a way I was lucky. Had a bunch of pre-cut Liberty Tana lawn bias tapes, a freebie gift from my last Liberty purchase on Etsy. Will have to go look up the name of that Liberty print. It's really sweet and pretty, and might suit something for my niece whom we are expecting soon!
